In a press conference after the victory against Real Madrid (3-0) on Saturday night, FC Barcelona coach Xavi stated that the rival team has a better squad than his own. This was a way for the coach to demand signings from the club’s management.
For the second consecutive year, FC Barcelona faced Real Madrid in a friendly match in the United States. In a game held in Dallas, the Blaugranas secured a 3-0 victory, with goals from Ousmane Dembélé, Femi Lopez, and Ferran Torres. However, Xavi, the coach of Barcelona, found the result misleading. He even compared his squad to that of the rival team in the post-match press conference.
“The result is very favorable, but that doesn’t mean we played a super game. Real Madrid has a much better squad than ours. They have brought in players and have a wide range of possibilities. They have a great squad. I’m satisfied with how we played, but there are many things to improve, and at many moments, we looked like what we want to be,” said the former midfielder, as reported by Real France, putting pressure on the club’s management in this summer transfer window. The remarks were directed towards Deco and Mateu Alemany, club executives, according to Marca.
According to the Spanish media’s information, Xavi believes his team still needs a right-back and a defensive midfielder. He emphasizes that he does not want to compromise and prefers to field specialists in each position to be competitive in all aspects of the game, especially in European competitions. As a reminder, so far, FC Barcelona has only welcomed three signings, including İlkay Gündoğan, Íñigo Martínez, and Oriol Romeu.
