Nigeria revived its chances of advancing to the second round of the 2023 Women’s World Cup after securing a 3-2 victory against Australia on Thursday in the second match of Group B.

This marks the first African victory at the 2023 Women’s World Cup held in Oceania. The Nigerian team defeated Australia in a thrilling match during the second day of Group B. After a draw against Canada (0-0) last weekend, the Super Falcons revitalized their tournament with a precious win against the Australian women’s team today. The Nigerian team secured a 3-2 victory in an intense encounter.

Although falling behind to a goal by Emily van Egmond (45+1), the Super Falcons quickly responded with an equalizer by Uchenna Kanu (45+6). Defender Osinachi Ohale then put her team in the lead just before the hour mark (65th minute), and Asisat Oshoala, the Barcelona player who came off the bench, sealed the victory a few minutes later (72nd minute).
