In an interview with L’Équipe on Wednesday, the president of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, revealed that the French women’s football team’s objective is to secure the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris.

Eliminated last Saturday in a penalty shootout by the Australian team during the quarter-finals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the French players did not manage to achieve their initial goal of reaching the semi-finals, as set by the French Football Federation. However, the French team must quickly regroup to face upcoming challenges, including the 2024 Paris Olympics. In fact, the president of the FFF, Philippe Diallo, has already outlined the path to follow in this competition for Hervé Renard’s proteges.

“Everyone knows what the Olympics in Paris represent. The French women’s team will obviously have an ambitious goal, to reach the podium and see the color of the medal. The one we’re aiming for is undoubtedly gold. We know we will be expected to perform, Hervé and the players as well. They are capable of taking on this challenge,” stated the head of the FFF in an interview with L’Équipe on Wednesday, as reported by RMC Sport.

Present with the French women’s team in Australia for three weeks, Philippe Diallo reflected on the team’s journey during the 2023 Women’s World Cup. He noted “many elements that are hopeful and positive.” Thus, he does not want to view the team’s performance as a “failure.” “In the span of a few months, I witnessed the rebirth of a united and solid French group,” Diallo affirmed. “We have raised our demands in terms of top-level performance thanks to Hervé Renard and his staff,” he added.
