Ghanaian boxer based in the United Kingdom, Freezy Macbones, opened up about a funny but crazy encounter with British police officers who mistook him for being gay.

The boxer said he was walking the streets of England with the first friend he made after arriving in the UK when they were stopped by police officers. While the officers were questioning his friend, one of them took the Ghanaian aside to ask him questions about his sexuality. The officer asked if he and his friend were a couple.

“They grabbed the guy, pushed him against the wall, and I said, ‘What’s going on?’ There was a female officer who took me aside and asked, ‘Do you know this man?’ and I said, ‘I haven’t done anything’,” Freezy recounted in a video shared on TikTok. Honestly, I was scared. I was so scared, I’m not gonna lie. I was peeing, my hand was shaking like that. I’m innocent, I know where I come from. I’m a black man, and they handcuffed a white man. The black man is safe.”

Fortunately, the police released both individuals after the interrogation. “They separated us, and a female officer said, ‘Calm down, calm down. You’re okay.’ I said, ‘I don’t know him. I helped him a week ago, and he gave me his number. I don’t know him.’ So they could sense my accent and see how I speak,” he continued.

“And one of them asked me, ‘Is he your boyfriend?’ and I said, ‘What do you mean by boyfriend?’ And at that time, I didn’t know anything about homosexuality… They said gay, and I said, ‘What’s homosexuality?’… I grew up in the village, so I didn’t know about homosexuality. Who will be gay in the village? What’s wrong with you guys?'” Freezy Macbones further revealed that when he was finally released by the police, he “ran like Usain Bolt” all the way home.

Born in Ghana, MacBones grew up in a town called Bimma in the Ashanti region, where he worked as a mason. He moved to the UK in 2012 and climbed the ranks to become a boxer. According to him, when he first arrived in the UK, he had two jobs, working day and night. His boxing career was unstable, but at the age of 33, he finally broke through and has been making waves throughout the United Kingdom. He has decided to compete under the English flag, so Ghana will not enjoy the success of this boxer.
