A recently appointed magistrate, A. M. S, was arrested and dismissed for impersonating a woman to take exams for his girlfriend at the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Lira, Uganda.
According to the LIB media, A.M.S was promoted to Magistrate Grade One on probation by the Judicial Service Commission two weeks ago. He was caught red-handed on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, while taking an exam for his girlfriend, a law student named I. F., at the Lira campus of the Law Development Centre (LDC).
He appeared before the Chief Magistrate of Lira on Friday, July 28, who remanded him in custody until August 3, 2023. In a statement, Frank Nigel Othembi, the director of LDC, stated that A.M.S is charged under Article 351 of the Penal Code for impersonation and under Article 381 for the offense of forgery.
Following the incident, a statement from the judicial authority terminated the recent appointment of Magistrate A. M. S. The letter indicates in part that “the Judicial Service Commission wishes to inform the general public that Mr. A. M. S, one of the recently hired magistrates, will no longer be employed in the judicial service.” However, the news has become a major scandal on social media.
