Present at Monaco for the UEFA Champions League draw on Thursday, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed his satisfaction with the group that his club has been placed in.
The draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League took place on Thursday evening in Monaco. Considered one of the favorites for the title, PSG was drawn into Group F, known as the group of death, alongside Dortmund, AC Milan, and Newcastle. It’s a highly competitive group in which the Parisians will have to fight to advance to the next round. But this challenging scenario doesn’t intimidate PSG’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
“It’s difficult, but it’s the same for others. Yes, it’s tough, but that’s what we want, that’s what we like, playing big matches. We have to take it positively. It will require the players and staff to be ready, to work harder. I feel that we’re on the right path for the last 3 matches. We want to progress. It’s motivation for everyone, but we have to take it step by step,” he stated to beIN Sports, as relayed by Footmercato.
Yohan Cabaye, a former PSG and Newcastle player who is now the sporting coordinator of PSG’s youth academy, also shared his thoughts on this unusual draw during an interview with RMC Sport.
“Selfishly, I’m very happy to return to Newcastle. I had very good times there. Revisiting the stadium, the passion, the fans… Seeing them back at the forefront is a pleasure. Now, from a sporting perspective, these will be two tough matches against them. It’s the Champions League. But I’m happy,” he initially expressed.
He added, “The three opponents will be tough. Three different teams, three challenging teams to play against. Three stadiums with a unique atmosphere as well. It’s the Champions League. Unfortunately, we’ve been placed in the most difficult group, yes. But being PSG, we have to play the matches to win, and we should also remind ourselves that other teams are afraid of us.”
