Political observers believe that holding local and regional elections precedes the appointment of members of the second chamber of parliament, known as the National Council of Regions and Districts. This marks an important step in implementing the constitutional reforms initiated by President Saïed.

A Deep Crisis Since 2021, Tunisia has been facing a deep political crisis, triggered when President Saïed made the radical decision to dismiss the government and dissolve parliament. This crisis has had significant repercussions on the Tunisian economy, exacerbating existing difficulties.

In July 2022, President Saïed had a new Constitution adopted by referendum, paving the way for legislative elections in December of the same year. However, these elections took place in the absence of most of his opponents, adding a layer of complexity to the country’s political situation.
