As the start of the European leagues approaches, some star players who are free agents still haven’t found a club. Among these, Sergio Ramos and Eden Hazard can be mentioned.
The return of the leagues is fast approaching, and numerous famous names from European football, currently without contracts, are still seeking to rejuvenate their careers. These footballers, who are currently clubless, are mostly players in their thirties and could bring valuable contributions to many teams.
The first name that comes to mind is inevitably Sergio Ramos. After two seasons at PSG, the Spanish defender was not retained by the French club. Eager to continue his career, the former captain of Real Madrid is reportedly only considering a return to his youth club, FC Sevilla, according to the Iberian press. However, the Andalusian club has publicly stated that they are not interested in the player, who is being courted by MLS and Saudi Arabia.
Another former Real Madrid player is also on the list of free agents, and that’s Eden Hazard. Purchased for 115 million euros in the summer of 2019, the Belgian had a tumultuous time in the Spanish capital. Released from his contract this summer, the former Red Devil hasn’t been flooded with offers. Only KVC Wasterlo, a Belgian second division club, has shown interest. Neither MLS nor Saudi Arabia have made a move for the player at the moment. His future is more than uncertain.
Alexis Sanchez and David De Gea Unrestricted since July 1st, Alexis Sanchez is unlikely to extend his stay at Marseille unless an improbable turn of events occurs. The 34-year-old player, who scored the most goals for his club last season (14 goals in Ligue 1), has yet to dispel uncertainties surrounding his future. Italian media suggest that Sanchez is awaiting a proposal from Inter Milan, while various clubs in Italy and Saudi Arabia have expressed interest. Additionally, his name has also been linked with Barcelona, potentially to compensate for the early departure of Ousmane Dembélé.
Another free player who could still offer his services is David De Gea. The Spanish player left Manchester United this summer after a lengthy tenure. Now without a club, the goalkeeper could be of interest to several clubs, especially in La Liga, but his salary is a problem (20 million euros per year). At that price, Saudi Arabia naturally seems like a suitable destination for someone who had nearly joined Real Madrid in 2015.
In addition to the aforementioned names, several other stars are also available on the transfer market, including Jérôme Boateng, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Javier Pastore, Adama Traoré, Juan Mata, Mariano Diaz, and Steven Nzonzi.
