During the second stage of the Tour de France women’s race, the talented Dutch cyclist Eva van Agt (Jumbo-Visma) unfortunately had a heavy fall while descending. This tragic incident occurred on Monday and required her immediate transportation to the hospital.
On Monday, the peloton of the Tour de France women’s race had to face a particularly perilous second stage, from Clermont-Ferrand to Mauriac. Unfortunately, the race was marked by a wet road surface, making the descents particularly dangerous for the cyclists. Several unfortunate incidents occurred, including numerous crashes that caused chaos in the peloton.
Among the victims of these adverse circumstances, Dutch cyclist Eva van Agt suffered a dramatic fall just 6 kilometers from the finish, while she was at the front of the group, descending a difficult section. In an attempt to control her speed, the 26-year-old cyclist collided violently with a safety barrier, leaving her lying on the ground.
The medical team quickly intervened to assist the injured cyclist. Unfortunately, the injuries were too serious for her to continue the race, and Eva van Agt had to make the difficult decision to abandon. Information from the Dutch media NOS indicates that the cyclist briefly lost consciousness at the scene of the accident, causing great concern among spectators and participants. However, she regained consciousness before being transported to the hospital, where she is now receiving the necessary care.
Her team, Jumbo-Visma, confirmed the cyclist’s health condition, reassuring fans about her awakening and medical evacuation. “We arrived quite quickly with the doctors. She feels better and is conscious. We will check at the hospital to make sure everything is fine. Of course, she is in shock. It’s a serious accident. We have to wait and see what the doctors will say,” said Jumbo-Visma sports director Carmen Small, as reported by TV2.
It’s worth noting that German cyclist Liane Lippera won the stage, narrowly beating the yellow jersey holder, Lotte Kopecky. As a reminder, the Tour de France women’s race is in its second edition this year. It takes place from July 23, 2023, to July 30, 2023, and is part of the UCI World Tour calendar.
