The Togo National Anti-Drug Committee has taken new measures to address the growing concern related to drug consumption, especially among young people. A new initiative called “Togo Without Drugs” was launched this Tuesday with the aim of reducing the consumption of illicit substances in the country.
During the period from July 2022 to June 2023, Togolese authorities seized an impressive quantity of 150 tons of different drugs, including cocaine, crack, ephedrine, methamphetamine, and cannabis. To address this alarming situation, the anti-drug committee launched an initiative titled “Togo Without Drugs” on Tuesday.
One of the most concerning aspects of the situation is the skyrocketing consumption of Tramadol, a pain relief medication. Although officially classified as a “weak” opioid, Tramadol has caused considerable havoc in Togo and led to alarming issues of dependence.
The overall goal of the campaign is to reduce drug consumption among young people and support those who are dependent on drugs to break free from the grip of these substances. By raising awareness among the population and providing resources to aid detoxification and rehabilitation, authorities hope to make a significant difference in the fight against the drug menace.
