The Togolese capital is hosting a regional meeting this week, bringing together healthcare professionals from French-speaking Africa and officials from the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of the institutionalization of National Health Personnel Accounts (CNPS 2.0).
Like health ambassadors, 46 participants from 20 countries have gathered in Lomé since Monday, July 24, for a meeting focused on strengthening the capacity for implementing national accounts and reviewing data related to healthcare personnel. In a spirit of cooperation and exchange, they will share their experiences, challenges, and aspirations for shaping a future where health is the foundation of a prosperous and flourishing society.
According to Dr. Fatoumata Binta Tidiane Diallo, the Resident Representative of the WHO country office, this meeting is of crucial importance. National health personnel accounts are more than just statistics; they represent a compass that guides decision-makers in the complex healthcare system. By having a clear and precise view of the availability of healthcare resources, countries can confidently navigate towards rational, informed, and efficient management of their healthcare professionals.
Beyond the numbers, national health personnel accounts enable an understanding of trends and an analysis of the quality of medical personnel. It is a journey through time, reflecting on improvements and anticipating future needs. The healthcare system can thus be equipped with robust tools for equitable distribution of resources, continuous improvement of the quality of care, and serene planning to replenish the healthcare workforce.
