A few days before the new school year, the ministry responsible for primary, secondary, technical, and vocational education in Togo recently initiated discussions with representatives of private schools to standardize tuition fees.
In Togo, the 2023-2024 school year is scheduled to begin on September 18, 2023. As this date approaches, Minister Komla Dodzi Kokoroko convened a meeting with education stakeholders to address ongoing issues affecting the sector.
Key stakeholders, including associations of private school promoters (UFEPLA and APEPLT), as well as the Togolese Union of Parents’ Associations (UTAPE), were present to discuss the challenges ahead for the 2023-2024 school year, with classes set to resume on September 18, 2023.
One of the main concerns addressed during this meeting was the need to ensure uniform quality standards within the private education sector. Stringent measures have recently been taken by the government to shut down institutions operating illegally and under inadequate conditions, jeopardizing the safety of both students and teachers. Representatives from private schools welcomed these actions, emphasizing the importance of cleaning up the sector and promoting conducive learning environments.
