Faced with numerous cases of fraud reported in recent days, the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) has decided to take the bull by the horns by implementing new measures, including the establishment of a toll-free number.
In Togo, the Directorate of Cadastre, Land Conservation, and Registration (DCCFE) has been confronted in recent months with a worrying wave of fraud, perpetrated by malicious individuals posing as its agents. In response to this concerning situation, the officials of the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) have decided to fight back by implementing a new approach to protect citizens against the traps set by these scammers.
In a statement released this Monday, the Commissioner-General of the OTR, Philippe Kokou Tchodie, made it clear to the public that these imposters are not official agents of the OTR, and that the Office cannot be held responsible for their actions. To avoid any risk of fraud, the OTR insists on the legal procedure for payments related to land registration procedures.
Thus, payments must only be made at partner bank branches and on electronic terminals made available to users at the Office’s headquarters and on the DCCFE website. This new approach aims to ensure transparency and security in land transactions, while eliminating the risk of fraudulent intermediaries.
To further protect citizens against attempts at fraud, the OTR has also launched a toll-free number, 8280, for the public to report any suspicious activity. The Commissioner-General urges citizens to remain vigilant and to immediately report any attempted fraud to the OTR, the Police, or the Gendarmerie.
