In a new letter addressed to President Faure Gnassingbé, Brigitte Adjamagbo Johnson, coordinator of the political coalition “Dynamique pour la majorité du peuple” (DMP), has revisited the issue of electoral redistricting.
The “Dynamique pour la majorité du peuple” (DMP) continues to ardently advocate for electoral redistricting in Togo. For the opposition members gathered within the DMP, the cleanup of the electoral framework remains an essential priority before the upcoming elections. Hence, they have decided to send a new letter to the Head of State.
The correspondence emphasizes that electoral redistricting must be treated with utmost attention since it is a key factor in ensuring fairness and balanced representation within the Togolese National Assembly. Despite the DMP’s request, electoral redistricting seems not to have received all the desired attention during the recent discussions within the Permanent Consultation Framework (CPC).
According to Brigitte Adjamagbo, a fair electoral redistricting would strengthen democracy and guarantee adequate representation of different political forces within the country. For the DMP, this demand is crucial to instill a climate of trust between political actors and the Togolese people. They believe that a just and transparent redistricting is a fundamental step towards a strengthened democracy, where every voice counts and the will of the people is genuinely reflected in government institutions.
As political tension remains palpable, the DMP firmly maintains its demand and calls for a prompt consideration of this crucial issue in the upcoming electoral process.
