“On the night of August 27, 2023, the residence of the Coordinator of the Martin Luther King Movement, located in the Yoto 2 municipality in Tchekpo, was the scene of an armed attack carried out by a group of armed individuals. The incident, apparently related to a land dispute, resulted in one injured victim who was immediately evacuated to the Tsévié hospital.
In a statement released this Wednesday, the Martin Luther King Movement reported an unfortunate event that occurred at the home of the MMLK movement’s coordinator, located in the Tchekpo canton, Yoto 2 municipality. It involves an attack linked to a land dispute that has been ongoing for years, and despite the numerous efforts of authorities and state institutions to resolve it, no favorable solution has been found so far.
“The land situation in Tchekpo has reached a point of no return with this attempted aggression and assassination at the home of our focal point, and there is an urgent need for a definitive and lasting solution to be found,” the statement read.
The Martin Luther King Movement in its statement deplores this level of violence and brutality and requests that the perpetrators of this attempted aggression and assassination be pursued and brought before the judicial authorities. Furthermore, the MMLK requests that the security and judicial officials responsible for this case, including the local police chief (CB) as well as certain judges from the Vogan and Tabligbo courts, be questioned for allowing the situation to deteriorate to this point of attempted aggression.”
