Starting this Friday, an internationally acclaimed art exhibition titled ‘Dig Where You Stand – From One Ocean to Another’ opens at the Palais de Lomé. This cultural event promises to transcend borders and showcase the creativity of artists from various African backgrounds.

The Palais de Lomé, in collaboration with the African Artists Foundation (AAF) based in Lagos, is organizing an exhibition of numerous artworks starting this Friday. Titled ‘Dig Where You Stand – From One Ocean to Another,’ the exhibition will be open to the public from September 22, 2023, and will continue until the end of February 2024. It promises to be a must-visit event for art enthusiasts and curious individuals eager to explore various facets of modern African creativity.

According to Ms. Sonia Lawson, the director of the Palais de Lomé, this ambitious exhibition aims to provoke reflection on material use, journeys, emigration, recovery, and decolonization. It will bring together over 166 artworks from different mediums, including painting, photography, video, sculpture, and more. Participating artists, hailing from Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, and, of course, Togo, have employed a variety of materials, including some recycled ones, to create unique artworks.
