In Togo, a new wind is blowing for the Union of Independent Journalists of Togo (UJIT) with the election of Eli Goka as the new Secretary General of the leading journalists’ organization in Togo.
After a period of turbulence marked by a persistent leadership crisis, the Union of Independent Journalists of Togo (UJIT) seems finally ready for a fresh start. On Friday, August 11, 2023, in the heart of the capital city Lomé, members of the association gathered at SESAL for a historic general assembly, resulting in the election of a new Secretary General.
Indeed, Eli Goka, the Director of Programs at Koz FM, was chosen to lead UJIT following this general assembly. Defeating his rival Joachim Agbetim, Goka seized this opportunity with visible determination, ready to inject new vitality into Togo’s oldest journalistic organization.
After being inaugurated into his new role, Eli Goka shared his bold vision for the future of UJIT. With palpable passion, he expressed his determination to revitalize the association after months of stagnation and internal challenges.
While thanking his peers for their trust in him, the new Secretary General also emphasized the spirit of collaboration necessary to achieve this ambitious goal. Referring to the allegory of King Guezo, he illustrated the need for every UJIT member to contribute to closing the gaps and working together to restore the association’s greatness.
