The minister in charge of grassroots development launched money transfers on Tuesday in favor of underprivileged families as part of the additional phase of the Basic Social Safety Nets program. This initiative aims to support 26,250 vulnerable households residing in Grand Lomé.

As announced by the government, the 26,250 vulnerable households identified in 35 neighborhoods under the additional phase of the Basic Social Safety Nets program will soon receive their funds. They will also receive specific support for the development of Income-Generating Activities (IGAs) to help them permanently overcome poverty beyond the initial project.

During the inauguration ceremony on Tuesday, Minister Myriam Dossou-d’Almeida expressed her enthusiasm for the expected impact of this initiative. She highlighted that the project currently covers 61% of its target, a encouraging figure that demonstrates the efforts made to reach the most vulnerable populations.

This additional phase of the Basic Social Safety Nets project is made possible through the joint support of the Togolese government, the World Bank, and the French Cooperation represented by the French Development Agency (AFD). The total investment amounts to approximately 18 billion CFA francs, demonstrating the collective commitment to fighting poverty and improving the living conditions of disadvantaged segments of the population.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in Togo’s social policy by specifically targeting the most vulnerable households to provide them with the necessary financial support for their empowerment. It reflects the Togolese government’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to social inclusion and reducing inequalities.
