Togo has written a new chapter in its aviation history by becoming a major shareholder in the airline company Asky. This strategic move, marked by a 14.39% stake, represents a new era of sovereignty and cooperation in the aviation sector.
The signing ceremony took place in Lomé on Monday, August 21, in the presence of numerous prominent partners, including Ethiopian Airlines, the West African Development Bank (BOAD), the West African Development Bank (BIDC), and Sani Yaya, the Minister of Economy and Finance.
“I want to express the satisfaction of President Faure Gnassingbé and the entire government regarding the successful negotiations between the parties,” said Sani Yaya, Togo’s Minister of Economy and Finance, reflecting the national enthusiasm for this new initiative.
Togo’s entry as a shareholder in Asky marks a historic moment for African aviation. Founded by Togolese visionary Gervais Koffi Djondo, Asky has become a major player in the sector, offering a network of 23 destinations in 11 West and Central African countries. This new alliance will further strengthen Asky’s position as a key player in air connectivity in the region.
The humanitarian and economic aspects are highlighted by the Togolese government. This share acquisition holds a deeper significance than mere ownership. It underscores the country’s commitment to the development of the local and regional aviation industry, while opening new prospects for inter-African cooperation.
