In a gesture filled with solidarity and compassion, the Conference of Bishops of Togo (CET) made a heartfelt call on Monday, August 7, 2023, inviting Togolese people to observe a prayer union in honor of Niger.

Togolese people are invited to come together in prayer and observe three days of triduum to implore divine mercy and peace for the neighboring country, Niger. The Conference of Bishops of Togo (CET) announced this initiative in a public statement on Thursday, addressed to all Catholic parishes in Togo.

The initiative also aims to raise awareness among International and Sub-Regional Institutions about the urgency of considering the suffering of the Nigerian people in their crucial decisions.

The triduum of prayers will take place from August 8 to 10, 2023, in all parishes of the various dioceses. Each day, parishioners will have the opportunity to participate in an hour of adoration to the Blessed Sacrament, presided over by the Parish Priests, dedicated to the critical situation in Niger. This initiative symbolizes the union of hearts and minds in favor of peace and stability.

The triduum of prayers comes as the ultimatum given to General Tiani for the release and restoration of Mohamed Bazoum to the leadership of Niger has expired. As developments are awaited, ECOWAS has scheduled an extraordinary summit on Thursday, August 10, 2023, to analyze the situation. The Nigerian people, facing crucial challenges, remain at the center of international concerns.
