The Togolese police have recently put an end to the activities of a thieves’ network operating in the neighborhoods of Agoè and Noépé. The group was involved in mobile phone and motorcycle thefts.

In Togo, an investigation launched by the Togolese police following complaints of thefts led to the arrest of several individuals involved in these criminal acts as well as illegal resale activities. The case began with a burglary at the Customs Post in Noépé, where five mobile phones and a laptop were stolen on the night of August 15-16. Through meticulous investigations, the police officers identified and apprehended the main suspect, T. Komi, a 25-year-old dealer residing in Noépé, who was found in possession of the stolen laptop. Upon interrogation, Komi confessed his involvement and revealed the existence of an accomplice, D. Anani, a 36-year-old repeat offender, who was also arrested.

The collaboration between the suspects led to the identification of two habitual receivers, A. Koffi Fabrice (22 years old) and S. Bachirou Kévin (25 years old), who admitted to buying and reselling several stolen items provided by Komi and Anani. Authorities quickly expanded their investigations to Agoè, where a second group of wrongdoers was operating. Following a complaint from a phone vendor who had fallen victim to a motorcycle theft orchestrated by two individuals, the police managed to apprehend A. I. Hamadou, the suspected motorcycle thief.

The investigation led to the discovery of a broader network involving K. Djamiou and A. Moutawakilou, who were receiving the stolen items. Djamiou was particularly active in an enclosure located in Agoè Zongo, where motorcycles were repaired, and Moutawakilou managed the resale of spare parts. This complex operation was closely monitored by law enforcement, leading to the recovery of five motorcycles, including the one stolen from the phone vendor.

The arrested individuals will be brought before the Public Prosecutor of Lomé to answer for their actions. The National Police expressed their gratitude to the population for their cooperation and emphasized the importance of everyone’s vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future. This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of the Togolese law enforcement in combating crime and encourages citizens to report any suspicious behavior.
