The Fazao-Malfakassa Park, a biodiversity gem located between the Kara Region and the Central Region in Togo, is set to receive significant funding of 200,000 euros, equivalent to 110 million FCFA, for the implementation of the project “Sustainable Management of the Fazao-Malfakassa Park and Improvement of the Livelihoods of the Local Communities.”
This project, supported by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, aims to combine environmental preservation with economic development for local communities. The Fazao-Malfakassa Park, listed as a UNESCO heritage site and protected by the Togolese government, is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, housing a variety of natural habitats and rare faunal and floral species.
As part of this 18-month project, several initiatives will be implemented, including strengthening the monitoring of natural resources in the park to combat poaching, promoting livestock farming, and supporting community forestry in the surrounding areas.
This funding injected into the Fazao-Malfakassa Park demonstrates Togo’s commitment to preserving its natural heritage while ensuring the economic well-being of local communities. This promising project opens up new prospects for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the region.
