The military coup attempt in Niger is not yet fully successful, as stated by the Nigerian Foreign Minister. The coup d’état is not unanimously accepted by the political class. On Thursday morning, in a series of messages on social media, Hassoumi Massaoudou, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who presents himself as the “acting head of government,” declared, “This adventure with sinister objectives will fail.”
On France 24, Hassoumi Massaoudou also rejected the “attempted coup”: “It is not the entire army that engaged in this coup d’état, the evidence is that the army command has not spoken. Secondly, the Nigerien people can no longer accept […] a seizure of power by force. It is an anachronism.” He, who is also the secretary-general of the ruling party, calls on the “mutinous officers to return to their ranks.”
