The Henley Passport Index, a London-based investment migration consultancy, recently released the ranking of the world’s most powerful passports in 2023. According to this new ranking, Togo is ranked 80th globally.

In the latest ranking by the Henley Passport Index, the Togolese passport has secured the 80th position worldwide. This ranking assesses the power of passports based on the number of destinations accessible visa-free for their holders, thus revealing the most advantageous passports for travel.

While Japan, which had topped the ranking for five consecutive years, is now relegated to the 3rd position, Singapore takes the first position by offering access to 192 countries visa-free. The Seychelles, on the other hand, shine in Africa, ranking 24th globally and being the top African country on the list, allowing their citizens to travel to 155 countries visa-free.

Ranked at the 80th position, the Togolese passport still provides its holders the opportunity to visit 57 countries without a visa. With this ranking, Togo finds itself among the least powerful passports on the list, limiting the visa-free travel options for its citizens. This situation raises questions about the opportunities for the country to improve its diplomatic relations and enter into new international agreements to facilitate the mobility of its citizens.

It is worth noting that in the previous ranking, Togo was placed at the 92nd position and allowed visa-free access to 55 destinations. With this slight improvement, further efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations could lead to new travel prospects for Togolese citizens in the future.
