Russian forces have announced they thwarted a large-scale drone attack in Crimea, shooting down 42 Ukrainian drones. This attempted attack comes amidst escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
The Russian military reported successfully preventing a significant drone attack in Crimea, detailing a series of events that highlighted an escalation in the region. According to official accounts, 42 Ukrainian drones were shot down during this operation, revealing a concerted attempt to breach the annexed peninsula by Russia. This attack occurred shortly after a rare commando operation was declared by Kyiv in the same area.
As stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense, nine drones were destroyed through direct fire over the territory of the Republic of Crimea, while 33 others were neutralized using electronic warfare means, causing them to crash before reaching their target. However, no information was provided regarding potential material damage or casualties resulting from the destruction of these devices.
Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev of Sevastopol also reported that several drones were shot down off the peninsula, in the area of Cape Chersonese located southwest of Crimea. Fortunately, no civilian infrastructure was impacted, according to local emergency services.
