The National Agency for the Identification of Persons (ANIP) has once again responded to the controversy surrounding the QR code on the secure documents it issues. This time, it was the Director of ANIP himself who spoke up during an AskGouv session.
There is no cause for concern when it comes to verifying the QR code on the documents produced by ANIP. After an initial clarification from the agency’s services, the Director General of ANIP reiterated the proper functioning of the verification system. “The QR code on the documents issued by ANIP is verifiable,” Pascal Nyamulinda confirmed.
According to the explanation provided by the DG/ANIP, “the data read from the QR codes of ANIP’s documents by standard readers is encrypted and can only be decoded by a specific application.” This explains the difficulty for individuals with non-compliant applications to verify the QR code. It is this difficulty that has sparked a major controversy, leading to the misconception that there is a problem. However, according to the authorities, this is not the case.
It should be noted that this specific application for reading the QR code is made available to “key public services, diplomatic and consular missions, and service providers who request it.”
