The jihadist group Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that killed more than 50 people, including numerous minors, during a political rally in northwest Pakistan.
On Monday, IS claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that occurred the previous day in the city of Khar, located in northwest Pakistan. A member of IS detonated his explosives-laden belt in the midst of a large crowd, primarily consisting of members and supporters of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) party.
The violent explosion left a heavy human toll, with at least 54 people killed and over 100 others injured. The gathering had brought together more than 400 JUI-F members and supporters under a tent in the city of Khar, near the border with Afghanistan.
This deadly attack highlights the persistent threat of terrorism in the region, especially with the active presence of jihadist groups like the Islamic State. Targeted attacks on political rallies also raise concerns about the security of public events in the country.
The Islamic State’s claim of responsibility for this deadly attack in Pakistan underscores the need for authorities to remain vigilant and strengthen security measures to protect citizens from such acts of violence. In this period of regional instability, international cooperation in the fight against terrorism remains crucial to contain the threat posed by these extremist groups.
