The European Union is prepared to export almost all Ukrainian agricultural products via “corridors of solidarity,” which are railway and road connections passing through EU member states neighboring Ukraine, said Janusz Wojciechowski, European Commissioner for Agriculture, on Tuesday. This comes after Russia withdrew this month from a UN-supported Black Sea grain accord.
The Commissioner stated that the volumes amount to around four million tonnes per month of oilseeds and cereals, with 60% of Ukrainian exports being transported through the solidarity routes, compared to 40% through the Black Sea when the agreement was in effect. The European Union is currently considering several initiatives from member states to develop a joint plan to cover the additional transportation costs, the exact amount of which has not been evaluated yet.
