The Central African President Faustin Archange Touadera, currently heading the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), has strongly condemned the coup d’état that occurred in Gabon on August 30th.

As the current President of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), Faustin Archange Touadera, the Central African President, expressed his firm condemnation of the recent coup d’état in Gabon on August 30th. Through an official statement issued from the Central African Republic, he expressed concern about these developments and called for the preservation of constitutional order and stability in the region.

President Touadera referred to the coup in Gabon as “deeply concerning” and firmly condemned it. In the statement, he emphasized the importance of respecting the physical integrity of President Ali Bongo Ondimba and his family while calling for a return to constitutional order in the neighboring country.

The headquarters of CEMAC, which was established in 1994 to succeed the Customs and Economic Union of Central Africa, is based in Bangui. It brings together six countries from the region: Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville), Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Chad. In this context, President Touadera highlighted that any unconstitutional change of government constitutes an unacceptable violation of the fundamental principles of the Community.

The Central African head of state also advocated for dialogue as the preferred method to resolve disputes. With Central Africa facing a series of political challenges and transitions, President Touadera emphasized the need to preserve peace and stability in the region by avoiding non-constitutional disruptions.
