The Beninese government is not yet seriously fighting against terrorism. This is the opinion shared by the trade unionist Noël Chadaré at the end of the parade that marked the 63rd anniversary of Benin’s accession to national and international sovereignty.

On August 1st, Benin commemorated the 63rd anniversary of its accession to national and international sovereignty. The official events, under the theme “Defense and Security Forces, standing together against terrorism,” featured parades of armed forces. At the end of the parade, trade unionist Noël Chadaré shared his thoughts on the fight against terrorism in the country.

According to the Secretary-General of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Benin (COSI-Benin), Noël Chadaré, the current fight against terrorism in Benin is a short-term battle. The real solution to terrorism, according to the union leader, lies in “fighting against underdevelopment, poverty, and unemployment.”

For the trade unionist, unemployment and poverty provide fertile ground for terrorism, and the effectiveness of the fight against this phenomenon depends on a policy that takes into account the living conditions of all populations, especially those in the most remote areas.

An effective and long-term fight against terrorism, according to the trade union leader, requires a policy that includes all Beninese citizens. The unionist calls for a fair distribution of the country’s resources. He emphasizes that if the country’s wealth is monopolized by a certain group, it indicates that they are not yet ready to fight against terrorism in the long run.
