Retirement for Novak Djokovic next year? That’s at least what his father, Srdjan Djokovic, hopes for, as revealed in the documentary “Novak Djokovic – Untold Stories.”

“I think it’s been a while that he should have stopped this very difficult job,” he said in the documentary Untold Stories, relayed by RMC Sport this Thursday, dedicated to his son. Srdjan Djokovic even adds that tennis does not represent Novak’s entire life: “Tennis is just a segment of his life, but not his whole life. I hope he will be recognized for the things he will do after the end of his career, once he leaves the world of tennis, which I hope will happen next year. And for Novak, slowly but surely… it’s not the end, but let’s say in a year and a half.”

His mother Dijana, also speaking in the documentary, is more measured: “His decision depends on him […] As far as I’m concerned, he can retire now – he has won everything.” At the age of 36, Novak Djokovic holds the record for men’s Grand Slam titles, with an impressive total of 23 victories. Despite this, he continues to play at an exceptional level, showcasing the extent of his talent. Recently, although he lost the Wimbledon 2023 final against Carlos Alcaraz, his performance on the court remains remarkable.

While the Serbian can still play for a few more years on the courts, he is inexorably approaching the end of his career. Djokovic himself admitted it in May: “The desire is still there, but things can change quickly, I’m 36 years old, guys.” Recently, he withdrew from the Toronto Masters 1000, to preserve himself for the US Open.
