Spain Strongly Criticizes Luis Rubiales After He Kissed Jennifer Hermoso During Women’s World Cup Final Medal Ceremony
Amidst Controversy, the President of the Spanish Football Federation Defends His Action, Explaining it was in the Heat of the Moment
Spain strongly criticized Luis Rubiales after he kissed Jennifer Hermoso during the medal ceremony of the Women’s World Cup final. However, the president of the Football Federation chose to defend this controversial gesture, explaining that it was in the euphoria of the moment.
“Let’s not listen to idiots and stupid people, really. It’s just two friends celebrating something,” Rubiales defended himself on Cope radio from Sydney Airport. “We’re not here for nonsense. With all I’ve experienced, no more nonsense and no more idiots. Let’s ignore them and enjoy the good things.”
“Don’t even talk to me about idiots who can’t see the positive side. It’s something harmless. If there are idiots, let them continue with their nonsense. Let’s listen to those who are not idiots. It’s something that doesn’t make sense, if people want to waste their time on it,” Luis Rubiales said, as reported by RMC Sport.
On her part, the Spanish player who experienced this inappropriate gesture from the president of the Federation preferred to downplay the situation, seeing it as “a gesture of friendship and gratitude” due to winning the World Cup. She added, “The president and I have an excellent relationship, his behavior with all of us has been excellent, and it was a natural gesture of affection and gratitude. We can’t redo a gesture of friendship and recognition, we won a World Cup, and we’re not going to deviate from what’s important.”
