Since its inauguration, the new Alassane Ouattara Bridge has become a symbol of creativity and joy. Ivorian comedian Eunice Zunon has broken her silence in response to criticisms from some Ivorians.
The fifth cable-stayed bridge in Côte d’Ivoire was inaugurated on Saturday, August 12, 2023. This bridge, connecting the cities of Cocody and Plateau, has become an attractive spot for residents of the Autonomous District of Abidjan since it was opened to motorists.
To immortalize their visits, some have decided to take photos of their weddings and their first kisses on the bridge. Others have even turned the bridge into a nighttime resting place by placing mattresses for an overnight stay or arranging picnics to create a family-friendly atmosphere.
However, internet users from Congo-Brazzaville, Guinea, and Nigeria have expressed various criticisms regarding the celebration of the new Alassane Ouattara Bridge by Ivorians. They criticized the somewhat childish behavior of those who have turned the cable-stayed bridge into a pilgrimage site.
Eunice Zunon, who has also taken photos on the bridge like other Ivorian celebrities, was offended and decided to respond to these negative criticisms. “Some people say that we who go to the new ADO bridge to make videos and photos are ridiculous and that we don’t travel, so we have never seen anything like this. Among us, when we buy a new phone, often we don’t sleep at night because we’re so eager to see what’s on the phone. Does that mean we’ve never had a phone in our lives? Why do you like provoking people like this? It’s something new, so we want to go and see as we pass by, and what’s the problem when we want to promote our country?” she replied.
