In a video broadcasted on Monday, August 14, 2023, Koné Seydou, also known as Alpha Blondy, expressed his concerns about the political situation in Niger. The singer is convinced that preventing war in Niger would be the best victory for Africa.

Alpha Blondy believes it’s time for ECOWAS to speak up: “I am Alpha Blondy. And as a peace ambassador in Côte d’Ivoire, I would like to communicate with the ECOWAS community. The sound of boots is echoing. I wish for the ECOWAS authorities to stop this war,” he declared.

Continuing, the reggae singer emphasized that violence wouldn’t resolve the conflict in Niger. “The Europeans have never wanted war in Europe. And I have a feeling they want to spread the Russo-Ukrainian war to Africa. I hear about American troops stationed in Chad. French troops stationed in Niger and Chad. I’m not even mentioning those stationed in Djibouti. The Russians are in Djibouti too. The Chinese are in Djibouti. It’s just a matter of time before Africans fall into this geopolitical trap once again. We must not wage war.”

Lastly, the Ivorian celebrity proposed forming an army to combat terrorism within their African brethren. “ECOWAS members should come together to fight against the terrorism prevailing in several countries in the region.”
