Recently, Shola sparked animated debates online by stating that she would not submit to a man. Although her statement was discussed during the “Show Buzz” program on NCI last Monday, April 8th, it’s primarily the reason for her withdrawal from the Couper-Décaler scene that’s stirring conversations.
The media stage has been recently shaken by the controversial statements of Shola, commentator of the show ‘Yvidero’Show’ on the NCI channel. She is at the heart of the news after declaring on television her refusal to submit to a man. This claim has sparked an outcry not only on television sets but also across social media.
Responses were quick to follow, including one from Yvidero, the show’s host, who suggested that this stance could explain Shola’s single status. Although the latter tried to reconcile with the public by apologizing later, the misunderstanding persisted online, leading to a myriad of interpretations.
The topic gained more momentum during her appearance in ‘Show Buzz’ on NCI, on Monday, April 8th, where she announced that she would no longer participate as a commentator, a noticeable absence since she wasn’t present during the previous broadcast of the show on Friday, April 5th. Despite the disappointment expressed by some viewers following this departure, Shola teased the idea of an upcoming project, promising an exciting reveal for her fans in the near future.
Aside from this controversy, the debate about her withdrawal from the music scene, specifically from the Coupé-décalé genre, to focus on television, was also addressed during ‘Show Buzz’. Interviewed by the host Mulukuku DJ and commentators Ozone and Carina Style, Shola provided explanations for her career shift that surprised many listeners.
“I didn’t come into the Couper-Décaler for money. At least I wasn’t hungry when I joined this environment. I just came for fun and to make myself known. Matty Dollar was my idol. Especially since in my circle, people would say that she and I had the same physique. I wanted to do like Mathy Dollar. We even released a song together called ‘Enlevez caleçon.’
A concept that was not to my father’s liking at all. Irritated, Dad told me that I wasn’t going to promote this concept here in Ivory Coast. Dad sent me to Morocco. I worked there for a few years in a call center. Being there, I really understood the meaning of life,” she explains.
“Once back in the country, I decided to leave the coupé-décalé. With hindsight, when I think about it today, I can affirm that I was possessed by the devil. I had almost abnormal attitudes. I shocked my parents with my outfits and habits. Though they hadn’t raised me that way. It wasn’t my nature. I was listening to people around me. Thankfully, I’ve been delivered. Too many indecent proposals in this environment. I couldn’t take it anymore. And also too many rumors. I stopped music because of the weird and indecent proposals. The proposition that shocked me was from an uncle I called ‘Papa’ who had indecent intentions towards me.
It’s what precipitated my withdrawal from this environment. Anyway, I ate his money, but I distanced myself from him as soon as he revealed his intentions to me.”
