Speaking to Movistar, Ivan Rakitic expressed his disappointment after FC Sevilla’s penalty shootout defeat against Manchester City (1-1, 5-4) in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night. The Croatian midfielder still acknowledged the quality of the opponent.
FC Sevilla was very close to securing their second trophy of the calendar year on Wednesday night following their Europa League victory. Facing Manchester City, the Spanish team held the lead for a significant portion of the match after En Nesyri’s goal (25th minute). However, they were equalized in the second half and eventually lost in a penalty shootout (5-4). After the match, Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic didn’t hide his disappointment.
“We fought, we knew it would be very difficult, we did a lot of things very well. It’s not for nothing that this team has won everything it has won and will win in the future, but you’ve seen what Sevilla is like. It’s a shame not to bring the cup home. City’s players celebrate the title as if it were normal, while we would have set the stadium on fire. We wanted the cup much more than they did,” stated the Sevilla FC captain on Movistar, as reported by RMC Sport.
