Senegalese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Aïssata Tall Sall, affirmed that her country would be prepared to respond positively to an ECOWAS decision in favor of a military intervention to restore stability in the region.
During a press conference where the situation in Niger was discussed, the minister emphasized that Senegal was a signatory of the regional organization and was committed to complying with its decisions. She highlighted the need to stop such coups that disrupt peace and stability in the region.
The military coup in Niger, which occurred on July 26, was led by the chief of the Presidential Guard, General Abdourahamane Tiani, overthrowing President Mohamed Bazoum, who has been confined to the presidential palace since then. Since July 28, General Tiani has been heading the National Council for the Safeguard of Democracy (CNSP), which is currently leading Niger.
The Chiefs of Staff of ECOWAS met in Abuja, Nigeria, to examine the situation in Niger and discuss a possible military intervention. This strategic meeting aims to find solutions to restore stability in the country and avoid any negative impact on the region.
