Senegal: Ousmane Sonko, the opposition leader, who has been on a hunger strike for 19 days to protest against “injustice,” has been admitted to intensive care at the Dakar Principal Hospital. His supporters are calling for his immediate release as concerns grow about his health.

In an official statement released by EL Malick Ndiaye, National Secretary for Communication of PASTEF and Vice President of the Communication Commission of Yewwi Askan Wi, a disturbing development is relayed: President Ousmane Sonko has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Dakar Principal Hospital. This medical measure follows a fainting episode the previous day, a result of his hunger strike that he started 19 days ago to denounce the “injustice and arbitrariness” he claims to be facing from the current regime led by President Macky Sall.

The Senegalese opposition vehemently denounces this “inhuman persecution” against the leader of PASTEF. Sonko’s hunger strike, undertaken as part of his resistance against the regime, raises serious concerns as his health deteriorates rapidly. Sonko’s supporters point fingers at President Macky Sall, the Minister of Justice, and the Minister of the Interior, holding them responsible for the critical condition of the opposition leader.

In response to this situation, a growing mobilization is observed among the Senegalese people. Activists, sympathizers, and citizens are expressing their strong demand for the immediate and unconditional release of President Ousmane Sonko as well as all political detainees. Demonstrations and calls for solidarity are increasing throughout the country, reflecting the indignation over this crisis.
