In the political backstage of Senegal, a new prominent figure is emerging. President Macky Sall has chosen Amadou Ba, currently the Prime Minister, to represent the Benno Bokk Yakaar coalition in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for February 2024.

Despite the political turmoil in the country in recent months, including legal proceedings against opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, Amadou Ba has maintained a discreet posture. However, this discretion did not prevent President Macky Sall from designating him as his successor for the upcoming electoral campaign. This announcement comes shortly after the president stated that he would not seek a third term.

Senegal’s Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, aged 62, has been selected by outgoing President Macky Sall to lead the Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition in the February 2024 presidential elections.

“Amadou Ba is the sole candidate of the Benno Bok Yakaar coalition,” declared the political faction leader, Moustapha Niass, reading the president’s message during a press conference.

Amadou Ba’s career is impressive. He played a key role in President Macky Sall’s government, serving as Minister of Economy and Finance from 2013 to 2019 and then as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2020. Before becoming Prime Minister in 2022, Ba also had a distinguished career in the country’s tax administration.
