In a television program on Senegalese RTS1, former Lion of Teranga, Diafra Sakho, announced the end of his professional career at the age of 33. It was a surprising decision from the striker, who is under contract with Nancy Lorraine until 2024, and he provided the reasons for his choice.
At the age of 33, Diafra Sakho has decided to retire from professional football. The Nancy Lorraine striker in the National league scored 6 goals for his club in the last season. After leaving the English club West Ham, Sakho faced a difficult career, mainly due to injuries.
In an interview on the Galaxy Sport show on RTS 1, the former Lion of Teranga striker explained the reasons behind his decision to retire: “I still have one year left on my contract with Nancy Lorraine, but I have chosen to end my career due to the numerous injuries I have suffered. My back injury causes me a lot of pain, even if it may not be visible to others. I don’t want to stay six months without playing and just receive a salary. That doesn’t motivate me. That’s why I made the decision to stop.”
Diafra Sakho had a varied career, playing for clubs such as Génération Foot, Metz, West Ham, and Rennes. Unfortunately, physical problems eventually took their toll, leading him to make this difficult decision to retire from the world of football.
