Despite being eliminated at the quarter-finals of the School Football World Cup held in Morocco, after a defeat against France (0-1), the junior Cheetahs from CEG Sainte Rita secured a spot in the next edition in 2024 in China. They returned to Cotonou on Thursday.
The Beninese delegation landed early in the morning at Cardinal Bernardin Gantin Airport and was warmly welcomed by numerous supporters congratulating the Beninese ambassadors for their mission in the Cherifian Kingdom.
Encouraging Journey In six matches played, the players from CEG Sainte Rita achieved five victories and suffered one defeat. Under the guidance of coach Sévérin Danha, they dominated against Mexico (10-0), Morocco (2-1), and England (3-0) in the group stage.
Despite their defeat against France (0-1) in the quarter-finals, the young Cheetahs secured the fifth place in the overall standings after their victories against Guinea (5-2) and Myanmar (0-0, 3-2 on penalties). These two crucial wins validated the U18 team from Benin’s qualification for the next edition of the competition, which will take place in 2024 in Dalian, China.
