If you are often troubled by insects in your home and have tried many commercially available products without satisfaction, give this old-school recipe a try.
This homemade insect repellent will keep bugs at bay. It’s simple and inexpensive. Just mix cloves with mothballs, and you will keep the insects out for good.
Ingredients:
- 250ml of water
- 20 grams of cloves
- 250ml of vinegar
- 10 small mothballs
Preparation:
Add 250ml of water into a pot, then toss in 20 grams of cloves. Let it boil for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you’ll notice the clove water has changed color and will have a strong smell that will permeate your entire house. After 10 minutes, turn off the heat, cover with a lid, and let it cool. Once it’s cooled, add 250ml of vinegar, and the 10 small mothballs.
Usage:
You can use a small plastic bottle or even a spray bottle. Fill the spray container with the mixture. You don’t need to filter out the cloves or the mothballs because these will be kept to retain the potency of the insecticide within the bottle.
Simply spray the mixture wherever you suspect fly or insect infestations and they will not return to that spot.
Moreover, since cloves are a powerful antiseptic and bactericide, their scent discourages mosquitoes, so it is indeed effective. Besides potentially intoxicating and killing mosquitoes, vinegar is excellent to repel mosquitoes, flies, or any other insect from your home.
