Officially appointed as the new coach of Saudi Arabia on Sunday evening, Roberto Mancini will receive a salary of 50 million euros (excluding bonuses) over two and a half years, according to information from Corriere dello Sport.
Despite heavy criticism following his resignation from the helm of the Squadra Azzurra, Roberto Mancini has chosen to become the new coach of Saudi Arabia. This decision might be linked to financial motivations. Indeed, as the new head of the Saudi national team, Mancini has signed an exceptional contract that was hard to refuse.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 58-year-old Italian has inked an impressive deal worth 50 million euros for a period of two and a half years, with an additional 10 million euros in bonuses. This salary will make Roberto Mancini the highest-paid coach in the country, placing him just ahead of Steven Gerrard, who manages Al-Ettifaq.
However, after his resignation from the position of Italy’s national team coach, Roberto Mancini had stated that his decision was not linked to an offer from Saudi Arabia. “Something will happen when it interests me, but Saudi Arabia has nothing to do with it.” Yet, considering the figures revealed by Corriere dello Sport, the sense of betrayal already felt by Italian fans is likely to intensify significantly.
