The funeral of Bob Lee was boycotted last Saturday by invited bloggers and artists, leaving hundreds of chairs empty. This clearly reflects the shocking nature of the blogger’s stances during his lifetime.

Bob Lee had thousands of followers on his social media platforms, but he did not have unanimous support among Ivorian artists and bloggers. Even though they did not oppose him during his lifetime, they expressed their disapproval by opting for the policy of empty chairs at Bob Lee’s funeral on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

Bob Lee’s friends turn their backs… The observation is evident; after his death on June 24, 2023, Bob Lee’s funeral was marked by the glaring absence of many Ivorian bloggers and thousands of fans who supported and applauded his bold stances and controversial revelations on social media.

In fact, following his death, his wife Mireille revealed that Bob Lee’s last wish was to be buried in his hometown of Divo, Côte d’Ivoire. After the repatriation of his body last weekend, Bob Lee was laid to rest in Divo, his native village. However, that was without counting on the absence of his fellow bloggers.

Bob Lee, a scapegoat for Ivorian bloggers It was a way to express their disapproval of his stances during his lifetime. “When you spend your time insulting the parents of people you don’t know from Adam or Eve, it always ends like this. Look after your own families and stop clashing with people’s parents,” says one internet user.

And yet, Bob Lee had a highly followed page in Côte d’Ivoire and throughout West Africa, titled “Boblee’show.”

“His specialty was to react to current events and give his opinion (often leading to insults and mockery). He passed away a few weeks ago. And at his wake, apart from his family, not a single person, not even a few among his thousands of followers, showed up to pay their last respects. The section reserved for authorities, friends, and acquaintances (green chairs) remained empty. May this serve as a lesson to us,” notes another individual.

This is proof that popularity on social media does not necessarily equal approval. Hopefully, Ivorian bloggers will take a lesson from Bob Lee’s sad end and reposition themselves. There is hope, knowing that the day after his baptism, blogger Apoutchou decided to put an end to all kinds of clashes on his social media platforms.
