Ned Nwoko’s victory for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Delta senatorial elections held on February 25, 2023, has been confirmed by the National and State Assembly Electoral Tribunal sitting in Asaba, the capital of Delta State. This decision follows the dismissal of a petition filed by Ken Kanmma of the Labour Party (LP).
A panel of three judges, chaired by Justice Catherine Ogunsola, ruled on the matter, rejecting Ken Kanmma’s LP petition for “lack of merit.” The judges concluded that the petitioner had failed to provide substantial evidence supporting his allegations of electoral non-compliance as stated in his petition. The absence of relevant documents presented before the court was a crucial factor in this decision.
Furthermore, the tribunal also dismissed the petition filed by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Ned Nwoko. This petition was dismissed, and the tribunal awarded costs of 500,000 Naira to the petitioner, thereby marking the conclusion of this case.
This confirmation of Ned Nwoko’s victory as the senator for North Delta brings an end to several months of disputes and controversies surrounding the election results. The tribunal’s decision strengthens the legitimacy of his position and allows him to continue his mandate in serving the people of North Delta.
Ned Nwoko, a well-known businessman and philanthropist, is also famous for his marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. This confirmation of his victory in the North Delta senatorial elections is a significant milestone in his political career.
