In a statement released on Thursday, Real Madrid announced that their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has undergone a successful surgery. The Belgian player will now begin his recovery process.

Injured during a Real Madrid training session, Thibaut Courtois suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of 9 months. On Thursday, the Spanish club provided an update on his condition. In a statement, the Casa Blanca announced that the Belgian international has undergone a successful surgery. It’s worth noting that this surgical intervention was planned.

“Our player Thibaut Courtois has today successfully undergone surgery for a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee by Dr. Manuel Leyes, under the supervision of the Real Madrid medical services. Courtois will begin his recovery process in the coming days,” the statement reads.

To cope with Thibaut Courtois’s extended absence, Real Madrid has welcomed Spanish goalkeeper Kepa. The former Athletic Bilbao player has arrived in Madrid on a one-year loan. This arrangement ensures that the Belgian goalkeeper can reclaim his starting position when he eventually returns, assuming he maintains his legendary form.
