Suffering a tear to one of the cruciate ligaments in his left knee during a training session on Thursday, Thibaut Courtois will be sidelined for several months. Taking to social media, the Belgian goalkeeper reacted to this major setback.
The 2023-2024 season hasn’t even begun, and it’s likely already over for Thibaut Courtois. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is dealing with a ligament injury. Present at Thursday’s training in Valdebebas, the Belgian shot-stopper sustained a tear to one of the cruciate ligaments in his left knee. A serious blow that will keep the Red Devil off the pitch for several months.
While surgery is scheduled in the coming days for the Merengue goalkeeper, he is expected to miss more than 9 months of competition and be out for almost the entire season, according to information from Besoccer citing medical sources.
A significant setback for the 31-year-old player, who, however, remains resilient in the face of his situation. In a post on his Instagram account, the Belgian reassured his fans that he will come back even stronger.
“You never expect to experience something like this, but now you have to accept it and do everything to overcome it and come back even stronger. Thanks to everyone for your energy, love, and encouragement, I can assure you that this motivates me to recover as quickly as possible,” Courtois wrote in the caption of a photo where he appeared lying down with his left foot in a cast.
While Real Madrid confirmed their goalkeeper’s injury in a statement on their social media, the Spanish club did not specify the duration of the Belgian Devil’s absence. However, the Madrid player is unlikely to return to the field before April, in the best-case scenario.
