In an exclusive interview with RMC Sport on Monday, Marco Asensio discussed several topics concerning his move to PSG this summer.
After seven long years at Real Madrid, Spanish winger Marco Asensio is set to continue his career in France. The player signed with Paris Saint-Germain this summer and even had the opportunity to play his first minutes with the French capital club last Friday during the friendly match against Le Havre (2-0 victory). Currently on tour with his new teammates in Asia, the Spanish international granted an exclusive interview to RMC Sport, during which he addressed several subjects.
When asked about the reasons that led him to join Paris, Asensio explained: “We were put in contact, and when they called me, the exchanges were very positive. They started explaining the whole project to me. And the truth is, when they began telling me about the project and the club’s ambition to create this team, it was really interesting. That’s why I’m here. Why this choice? Above all, for the project and ambition. The ambition to create a team. I’m at a very good moment in my career. I had to make a decision, and I wanted to take a step forward. I believe this club is the perfect one to do all that and to win all the trophies.”
During his time at Real Madrid, Marco Asensio won three Champions League titles with the Spanish club. When asked what Paris is missing to lift this trophy, he believes “there’s nothing missing. We have everything to achieve it. The truth is that it’s a very difficult trophy to win. Sometimes, it takes a combination of circumstances. But the players are here, we have the right project. In fact, it’s difficult, but I believe PSG will always be a candidate to win the Champions League, and this year, we’re going to try to do it.”
Marco Asensio then discussed his ambitions with PSG for the upcoming season. “The most important thing, first and foremost for the club, is to consolidate this project, play great football, win all the matches, and make the fans feel happy and proud to support us. And for sure, by doing things right, by playing the way we want to play and the way we aim to play, we’ll have a lot of fun,” he assured. We eagerly await the start of the new season to see if the Spanish player will live up to expectations.
