The party “Restoring Hope,” led by former minister Candide Azannai, has expressed its stance on the political crisis in Niger. In its statement, this opposition political party in Benin declares its strong opposition to any form of coup d’état.
“The Restoring Hope party is radically opposed to any coup d’état, regardless of the nature of the force used, and regardless of the motivations and status of the perpetrators,” the party stated in its declaration.
Affirming its commitment to democracy, the Restoring Hope party calls for loyalty and sincerity towards the values and principles of democracy, as they are enshrined as foundations in almost all of our Constitutions.
However, taking into account the maturity of the sister nation of NIGER and as a matter of principle, the Restoring Hope party will refrain from making derogatory comments or interfering in the internal affairs of the Republic of NIGER. “There is no other choice, unless explicitly invited, but to let the Nigeriens handle Nigerien affairs, or to put it more precisely, to let Nigerien affairs be handled by Nigeriens,” the opposition party to the Bénin regime indicated.
“It is in consideration of these factors that our Party refrained from commenting on crises that have shaken other countries near or far from us. The coup d’état of July 26, 2023 in NIGER is an internal dispute of this independent country, primarily concerning its sovereign state and its citizens. The sole principle recommended by the Restoring Hope Party is that of non-interference,” reads the party’s declaration.
The party of resisters advises the government to have the intelligence to always seek a pathway to establish winning relationships based on reciprocal interests with the countries in the sub-region.
