The Polish Minister of Defense has given his approval for a crucial agreement to acquire 486 HIMARS rocket launcher systems manufactured in the United States, aiming to enhance the capabilities of the Polish army in response to a potential Russian threat.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak confirmed the agreement to acquire 486 HIMARS rocket launcher systems of American production. This strategic decision comes in the context of Poland’s efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities in the face of a possible threat from Russia.
The agreement, with an impressive value of $10 billion, demonstrates Poland’s commitment to its national security. It will complement the eighteen HIMARS launchers already ordered in 2019, forming a squadron of 500 launchers distributed among 28 separate squadrons within the Polish army.
Mariusz Blaszczak, the Defense Minister, stated, “With the eighteen launchers ordered in 2019 – constituting one squadron – the Polish army will have 500 HIMARS launchers distributed among 28 squadrons.” He also mentioned that deliveries of these military equipment are expected to commence in late 2025.
